Willie Wiredhand and Earl the Elephant got to spend the day hanging out with the cherished members of FreeState Electric.

The Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center was packed with members on Saturday, August 28 at the first Crew at the Zoo member appreciation event. The event drew members from all across the FreeState service territory.

The event was planned to celebrate FreeState members and show appreciation by providing FreeState members a day of fun at the Zoo free of charge.

Area community organizations were also on hand to provide information about a variety of topics from health, wellness, volunteering, and energy efficiency.

“This event exceeded our expectations,” said Sarah Farlee, PR and Marketing Director. “We had so much fun seeing over 900 members in Topeka, and we were also able to meet brand new members and really welcome them to the co-op and showcase FreeState’s culture of member service and the cooperative difference.”

Attendees showed up in the hundreds to enjoy the inaugrual Crew at the Zoo.

“We had missed that in-person engagement we have had in the past after all of our in-person events were canceled due to COVID-19,” Farlee added. “So, we were excited to have the opportunity provide members and their families with a safe, outdoor activity they could enjoy as a family.”
