Lane-Scott Electric, in partnership with CoBank is awarding four $1,000 grant this year through the Sharing Success Program. The first recipient is the Frank Stull American Legion Auxiliary. The grant is to be used to install a handicap ramp into the American Legion and Auxiliary meeting room which is used for various community, civic and private events. The handicap access will allow their members to help with their community events and meeting and allow them to hold more events to benefit the veterans and youth programs.

“Since we are a non-profit organization, our members donate many hours and dollars to support our programs. As we use our funds to give back to our children and youth, as well as our veterans and military, this grant assistance is very beneficial and appreciate,” said Lynette Stenzel, Auxiliary President.

The second grant recipient is the Ness County Fire District #1, located in Ness City. The grant is to be used to purchase firefighting equipment such as firefighter’s bunker gear, SCBA gear (oxygen bottles), foam, gel and other fire retardants used in fighting CRP and other grass fires. The fire department is a volunteer department and primarily serves the Township areas of Center, Forrester, Franklin, Eden, and Johnson in Ness County. Secondary areas are the remaining Townships in Ness County and neighboring contiguous continues.

Lane-Scott Electric Cooperative just began this partnership with Co-Bank in 2020, and started taking applications this year from non-profit organizations, and other non 501c3’s to help charitable organizations in our communities.  “Partnering with CoBank to establish the Sharing Success Program creates a great opportunity for organizations who depend on donations and grants to do what they do best,” said Member Service Coordinator, Ann Marie Jennings. “We are excited to be able to provide this opportunity and support the communities we serve.”

The remaining two recipients of 2021 will be featured in a future newsletter. The next application period will be from January – May 2022, and grant amounts will be determined at that time. More information about the CoBank Sharing Success Grant Program can be found on our website at www.lanescott.coop.
