Heglin and Wagner Receive KEC Auxiliary Scholarships
Winners of the Kansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (KEC) Auxiliary Scholarship have been announced. The 2022 recipients are SLATER HEGLIN, sponsored by Pioneer Electric, and KRIS WAGNER, sponsored by Southern Pioneer (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pioneer Electric). Each received a $1,000 scholarship. Heglin and Wagner are past Electric Cooperative Youth Tour delegates.

Heglin attended the 2018 Youth Tour and is a junior at Fort Hays State University. He was also awarded the KEC Auxiliary Scholarship in 2021.
“I feel humbled to have been selected as a recipient of the KEC Auxiliary Scholarship. As someone who is paying for college on my own, I am grateful for scholarship assistance,” Heglin said. “My co-op involvement started in my hometown of Ulysses through Youth Tour and has continued through various opportunities with KEC as a college student at Fort Hays State University. I continue to use the Seven Cooperative Principles as a part of the foundation of my servant-leadership journey, both in the classroom and in the communities I serve. I am thankful for every opportunity to give back to Pioneer Electric Cooperative and KEC, as I have been blessed to be associated with these organizations! Thank you for investing in the leaders of today, while preparing them for tomorrow.”

Wagner attended the 2017 Youth Tour and served as the Kansas representative to the 2018 National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Youth Leadership Council. He is currently a junior at Kansas State University.
“Kansas Electric Cooperatives have continued to shape the future of our local communities, state, country, and world. Whether by investing in young adults through opportunities that strengthen their leadership skills or helping with continued education by providing scholarships. I am fortunate enough and honored to receive both,” said Wagner. “I would like to thank the KEC Auxiliary for this award, and for their continued support of rural areas.”
The KEC Auxiliary provides two $1,000 scholarships to college students who participated in one of KEC’s youth programs. Applicants must have been sponsored by a KEC member co-op and they must have completed at least one semester at an accredited university, college, or trade school.
