The 16th Annual Rural Kansas Photography Contest was a reminder of the beauty that surrounds us every day regardless of what is happening in the world.

Kansas Country Living staff once again had the honor of choosing the grand-prize winning photograph in the contest sponsored by Rural Health Education and Services at The University of Kansas Medical Center. Staff faced a difficult decision as the quality of the photographs submitted were exceptional and truly representative of the Sunflower State.

Photographer Scott Wright, Wichita, captured “Elk at Sunrise” at the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge in Canton, earning the grand prize of $100 and this month’s magazine cover. These photos were top contenders for the grand prize. Winners in each of the six content categories can be viewed at www.kumc.edu/community-engagement/our-divisions/rural-health/rural-kansas-photography-contest.html.
