    Rolling Hills Electric’s Safety Days

Tractor Safety Course at Smith Center

Electricity is one of the most overlooked, yet deadliest hazards of working on a farm. It is crucial to follow safe work practices at all times to prevent tragic accidents.

With this thought in mind, Rolling Hills Electric was asked to present to individuals taking the 2021 Tractor Safety Course that was held in Smith Center on Saturday, May 8th. Marc Martin, operations manager, and Clay Pickel, journeyman lineman, performed the electrical safety demonstration for the participants of the course. This information was especially relevant for this group and a great visual of the hazards of electricity in case they ever find themselves involved with a powerline out in the field.

This event was held as a collaboration between K-State Research and Extension Districts of Central Kansas, Cottonwood, Midway, Post Rock and River Valley. The training program provides trainees with knowledge of tractor, machinery, and other farm hazards to reduce the farm accident rate. It also provides sufficient information to pass a written examination and an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to pass a safe tractor driving examination. Federal law requires youth to participate in a Hazardous Occupations Training and become certified in order to work for hire for anyone other than their parents.

Farmers contribute so much to our everyday lives, and we care about their safety. We thank farmers for all they do and want them to go home at the end of each day.

    Safety Days

    Tipton Catholic School

Students at the Tipton Catholic Jr/Sr High School were studying circuits and electricity as their final unit for science class and had asked Rolling Hills Electric to be a part of that lesson. Crew members, Marc Martin, operations manager, and Trent Webb, journeyman lineman, presented to the 5th – 11th grade classes explaining how electricity works, the dangers of it and how to stay safe in an emergency involving electricity.

The students’ final assignment was to create electrical safety posters using the information they had learned. They were able to take away some great information and lessons on how to stay safe and prevent electrical accidents.

Thank you, Tipton Catholic Jr/Sr High School, for inviting us to be a part of your day!

    Kanopolis Middle School

Rolling Hills was invited to present to students at the Kanopolis Middle School Safety Day held on April 14th. This informational day was coordinated by the Ellsworth County Kansas Farm Bureau. Marc Martin, operations manager, Tyler Roesti, journeyman lineman, and Hudson Smith, apprentice lineman presented to two great groups of students during the day. They enjoyed the presentation and had lots of good questions for our crew!
