    The Tower Wind Quintet from Friends University in Wichita will perform a variety of selections at the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery.. The concert is a part of the Sandzén Gallery’s 2022-23 chamber music series.

    The Quintet was formed in 2001 and since that time have given annual recitals, performed frequently at KMEA conventions, commissioned several new works, given masterclasses and recitals in schools across the state, and performed at many community events. The current lineup consists of Chris Johnson on clarinet, along with Amy Hoffman, flute; Cindy Thompson, oboe; Denise Kintzel, horn; and Kimme Whittemore, bassoon. They last performed at the Sandzen Gallery in 2020.

    The group collaborates with a variety of other art disciplines as well. They have worked with the Friends Ballet Department and Visual Arts Department, Charles Parker (drama), Dr. James Knight (professor of piano), Rolaine Hetherington (soprano), Dan Racer and Randy Zellers (composers), the Friends University Concert Band as featured soloists, the faculty brass quintet, string quartet, percussion, and have produced multimedia presentations that include the use of lights and images.
