Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery
The Wichita Flute Quartet, consisting of Kathy Ensey, Ellen Johnson Mosley, Chastity Pawloski, and Kristin Shaffer, will be performing in the Sandzén Gallery. Please note the earlier than usual start time for this Saturday event. The group will be performing works by Bach, Bizet, Handel, Catherine McMichael, and others.
Kathy Ensey is a Wichita native and public-school music teacher, having held teaching positions in K-12 elementary, vocal and instrumental music in the Peabody and Valley Center districts. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in flute performance from Wichita State University. She is an active performer with orchestras and symphonies, and collaborates with local flute professionals on the Tack Flute Foundation Committee.
In addition to her activities as a flutist, Ellen Johnson Mosley is the Director of Development at the Great Plains Nature Center and a lecturer in the Hugo Wall School of Public Affairs at Wichita State University. Her ongoing work as a flutist and advocate for the arts has led to many collaborative flute performance and service opportunities throughout the United States. Additionally, she is a passionate advocate for community engagement and serves as the chair of the National Flute Association’s Development Committee, Board Member of the Kansas Flute Society, and Commissioning Member of the Flute New Music Consortium.
Chastity Pawloski pursued her bachelor’s degree in flute performance at Wichita State University. She is a member of the Tack Flute Foundation Committee and has judged their event competitions on multiple occasions. She has served as piccoloist for the Wichita Symphony Orchestra since 2012. She also enjoys performing in many local ensembles.
Kristin Shaffer received her BM and MM in flute performance at Wichita State University. She has been principal flutist of the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony since1996 where she has also performed as a soloist in 2008, 2010, 2011, and2017. She has substituted with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and plays in the newly-formed Wichita Wind Symphony. Kristin has served as adjunct faculty at Bethel College in North Newton since 1996 and Butler Community College in El Dorado since 2019.
